Debbie is a busy entrepreneur who has a passion for outdoor sport but was struggling with pain that held her back from her active lifestyle.
What prompted you to start working with Simon/Metabolic movement?
I wanted to avoid shoulder surgery and following physiotherapy sessions realised I needed specific exercises to help me. Simon’s style of PT is perfect.
I needed someone to push me out of my comfort zone but in a safe way and make me realise I am able to achieve more.
If you think back to your original goals and what you’ve accomplished since then, do you feel that you’ve made the progress you would have hoped? Have there been surprises along the way?
When I started with Simon I could barely brush my hair and struggled to dress myself as I simply could not lift my arms above my head. I had already had two steroid injections in my shoulder and the only other option left was shoulder surgery, which didn’t come without complications.
However. With working with Simon the pain has gone and I haven’t seen the consultant for 18 months. I am so delighted.
I have, without question, gained strength which has become noticeably in that my shape is has changed… definitely for the better
Have you kept up with consistent training while working with Simon? Have there been any roadblocks/barriers?
I injured my back playing golf and had to miss three weeks training. This injury has only reinforced my resolve to keep the training up, Simon has taught me specific exercises to help my back and improve my flexibility, this is definitely helping my golf.
I was cautious about returning after my back injury but Simon was very carefully to get me moving again with confidence
What else do you do outside of strength training to ensure that your health goals are met?
I play golf two to three times a week and walk as much as possible.
I try to get adequate sleep – I have notoriously been a dreadful sleeper but Simon has made me focus on the importance of good sleep which really impacts your health
I’m also focusing on nutrition – Simon is very knowledgeable on nutrition and we have sensible discussions on healthy eating choices. He tells you straight, which I like. He really helps to keep it simple and he helps you to make realistic choices.
What are your goals for the next three to five years with your health and fitness?
I want to continue with the strength training as I like the effects from it and value the importance of building muscle as you get older. I need to bring my cholesterol down and want to do this without taking statins. I want to avoid surgery on my shoulder and currently I am pain free .
Generally training with Simon is fun and his knowledge is second to none and you come away having learnt something. He is encouraging and wants you to succeed.
